Performance Standards

Roof Leaks

Standard: The roof should not leak.

Coverage: During the Limited Warranty Period Classic will repair roof leaks other than those caused by severe weather, such as hail or wind, or some action you have taken, such as walking on the roof. Roof repairs are made only when the roof is dry.

Ice Dam

Standard: An ice build-up (ice dam) may develop in the eaves during extended periods of cold and snow.

Coverage: See Gutters and Downspouts for Classic's responsibility.

Severe Weather

Standard: During severe weather it is not uncommon for rain and snow to enter the residence through attic vents and for shingles to become loose or blow off.

Coverage: Damage that results from severe weather is excluded from the Limited Warranty, unless the damage results from a defect in the installation of the roof or attic vents.

What's Not Covered

The following are excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Severe weather damage - Leaks and damage caused by severe weather, such as hail or wind, are excluded unless the damage results from a defect in the installation of the roof or attic vents
  • Homeowner actions - Leaks caused by actions you have taken, such as walking on the roof
  • Rain or snow through attic vents - Not uncommon during severe weather; excluded unless caused by an installation defect

After severe storms, do a visual inspection of the roof from the ground and notify your homeowners insurance if damage is apparent or suspected.

Filing a Claim

If you believe you have a warranty issue:

  1. Confirm the source of the water is the roof rather than a plumbing leak, open window, ice dam, clogged gutter or downspout, blowing rain or snow through code-required roof vents, or a gap in caulking
  2. Report the leak immediately to the Classic Homes Customer Care Department
  3. Request Service
