Performance Standards​

Condition at Orientation​

Standard: During the Final Walkthrough/Orientation Classic will confirm that wood trim is installed properly without damage. Minor imperfections in wood materials will be visible and will require no action.

Coverage: Classic Homes will correct only the readily noticeable construction damage such as chips and gouges listed on the Final Walkthrough/Orientation Form.

Exterior​

Standard: Cracks, twisting, shrinking, and the raising of the grain of exterior trim boards and decking, particularly cedar, are considered normal and are a function of the expansion and contraction of natural wood.

Coverage: These items are excluded from the Limited Warranty unless they constitute a construction defect. It is the Homeowner's responsibility to maintain these areas with caulking. All natural exterior decking is delivered and installed in its natural condition. Unless dictated by the design guidelines for the community, Classic does not stain or seal the decking. Because of the effects of weather on natural wood, Classic strongly recommends that all natural exterior decking be weatherproofed. Cracking, twisting, shrinking, raised grain, or warping is excluded from this Limited Warranty.

Raised Grain​

Standard: Because of the effects of weather on natural wood, you should expect raised grain to develop.

Coverage: This is normal and not a defect in the wood or paint and is not covered by this Limited Warranty.

What's Not Covered​

The following are excluded from warranty coverage:

  • Minor imperfections in wood materials - Visible imperfections require no action
  • Damage not listed on the Final Walkthrough/Orientation Form - Only listed chips and gouges are corrected
  • Cracks, twisting, shrinking, raised grain, or warping of exterior trim and decking - Normal behavior of natural wood, unless it constitutes a construction defect
  • Staining or sealing of decking - Decking is delivered in its natural condition; maintenance with caulking and weatherproofing is the Homeowner's responsibility

Filing a Claim​

If you believe you have a warranty issue:

  1. Check whether the damage (chips, gouges) was listed on your Final Walkthrough/Orientation Form
  2. For exterior trim or decking, consider whether the condition constitutes a construction defect rather than normal expansion and contraction of natural wood
  3. Request Service
