Important
Classic Homes cannot build a home that is airtight or pest & wildlife proof. There will be numerous areas where pests and wildlife can enter the home.
Performance Standards
Building Construction
Standard: The home is constructed to meet building code requirements for sealing and weatherization, but complete pest-proofing is not possible.
Reality: Insects such as ants, spiders, wasps, and bees, and wildlife such as woodpeckers, squirrels, mice, and snakes may enter through normal construction gaps.
Entry Points
Common entry points that cannot be fully eliminated include:
- Gaps around utility penetrations
- Weep holes in masonry (required for drainage)
- Roof vents (required for ventilation)
- Foundation/sill plate transitions
- Window and door frames
What's Not Covered
The following are excluded from warranty coverage:
- Pest entrance into the home - No home can be built completely pest-proof
- Wildlife entrance into the home - Normal construction has entry points
- Damage caused by pests - Insect damage, nesting, etc.
- Damage caused by wildlife - Woodpecker holes, rodent gnawing, etc.
- Costs of pest control services - Homeowner responsibility
