How to Use This Guide

This Homeowner Guide is an online resource you can read on a computer, tablet, or phone. It's organized into several guides — one for each stage of your home-building journey — and you can read it start to finish or jump straight to what you need. This page explains how to find your way around.

The fastest way to find a topic is the search box at the top right of every page.

  • Click the search box and start typing — results appear as you type.
  • Or press Ctrl + K (Windows) / ⌘ + K (Mac) from anywhere to jump straight into search.
  • Search covers all guides at once, so a term like "weep holes" or "closing disclosure" finds the right page no matter which guide you're currently reading.
  • When you open a result, the matching words are highlighted on the page so you can spot them quickly.

If you're not sure which guide a topic lives in, just search for it — that's usually quicker than browsing.

Ask Guide AI​

Search finds you a page. Guide AI answers a question — ask it the way you'd ask a person, and it replies in plain language with links to the pages it drew from.

Look for the red circle in the bottom-right corner of every page and click it to open the assistant. Type your question in the box at the bottom and press Enter.

  • Ask about anything in this guide. Guide AI reads all of it — purchasing, design selections, construction, closing, your warranty, and use & care — so you don't have to know which guide holds the answer. Try "how long is my furnace covered?" or "when do I pick my countertops?"
  • Follow the links. Answers cite the pages behind them. Click through to read the full detail in context.
  • Move it out of the way. Drag the circle to a different spot, or drag the edges of the chat window to resize it. Press Esc to close it.
  • On a phone or tablet. The assistant opens full-screen so there's room to read.

AI can make mistakes. Sources will be cited and linked where possible. Where an answer differs from The Classic Homes Limited Warranty, that document controls — and for urgent issues, call 719-592-9333 rather than waiting on the assistant.

Your conversations​

Click Chat history at the top of the chat window to see your past conversations, reopen one where you left off, or start a New Chat. Conversations are saved for 90 days. They're tied to the browser you're using rather than to your name, so if you're not signed in, a different device starts fresh.

Chat without the guide​

The same assistant is available on its own at chat.classichomes.com — full-screen, no guide page needed. It goes by Classic Chat there, but it's the same assistant answering from the same guide.

Getting around​

There are a few complementary ways to move through the guide:

  • Switch between guides. The bar across the top lists each guide (Purchasing, Selections, Construction, and so on). Click any name to jump to that guide. The guides are ordered to follow your journey, from purchasing your home through caring for it after move-in.
  • Move within a guide. The sidebar on the left lists the sections of the guide you're reading. Sections with a small arrow expand to reveal sub-topics; opening one section tidily collapses the others. You can hide the sidebar entirely to get a wider reading view, then bring it back the same way.
  • See where you are. The breadcrumbs near the top of each page (for example, Construction › Construction Meetings) show your current location and let you step back up a level.
  • Read in order. At the bottom of each page, Previous and Next links walk you through the guide in sequence — handy if you'd like to read a whole guide cover to cover.
  • On a phone or tablet. The sidebar tucks into a menu (☰) button; tap it to open the list of sections, and tap a topic to jump there.

Many pages also link to related topics inline — follow those links to dig deeper, and use your browser's Back button to return.

Guide versions​

Some guides are updated over time, so they keep dated versions. When a guide has more than one version, a version dropdown appears at the top right.

  • The latest released version is what you see by default — this is the right one for most homeowners.
  • Next is a preview of upcoming, not-yet-released changes. It shows a small "unreleased" banner so you know it isn't final.
  • Older dated versions (for example, 2026.08.01) remain available if you need to refer back to the edition that applied to your home.
  • Switching versions keeps you in the same guide on a comparable page.

Not every page shows a version dropdown. Pages that aren't versioned — like this Introduction — simply don't need one.

Saving or printing a PDF​

Prefer a document you can save, print, or read offline?

  • When a guide offers one, a PDF button appears at the top right. Click it to download that guide as a PDF. The download matches the guide and version you're currently viewing.
  • You can also use your browser's Print command (Ctrl + P / ⌘ + P) on any page to print or save just that page.

Bookmarking & sharing​

Every page has its own stable web address. Bookmark a page in your browser to return to it later, or copy the address from the bar to share a specific topic with your household or your Classic Homes contact.
